Treatments
Cerámica Elías offers its products pre-treated in the factory in order to make its use easier and faster. These pre-treatments are water sealants or oils, depending on the use of the material.
The treatment consists of three steps: Cleaning, Sealing and Finishes.
- Cleaning
- Sealing
- Finishes
Cleaning
It is very important that the area to be treated is completely clean of any cement residues or stains which may have appeared during the fixing, and this applies both to interiors and exteriors. There are special products available for this cleaning process. We would like to emphasize the importance of this process and it should not be overlooked in order to achieve the best results from the terracotta.
Sealing
Sealing for exteriors is recommended although is not always necessary. We do however advise the sealing of our products when used in a barbecue area or any eating area where the terracotta could be stained. Sealing for exteriors is done by immersion, that is, in both sides of the tile.
Sealing for interiors is always necessary to avoid stain in the terracotta.
There are several methods to seal depending on the use of the material:
- Water sealants – the sealer lowers the absorption of the material so the water cannot get into the tile. These sealers are the based upon which a wax can be used.
- Oils – by saturating the material with oil the pores of the material are filled with it and the absorption is eliminated.
Finishes
These depend on each individuals taste:
- Waxes can be used to achieve different finishes, such as a matt, satin or gloss effect. There are also colored waxes to obtain different finishes, for example, dark wax to get an old leather finish.
- Oils, as already mentioned, can be used to saturate the material and also to obtain a dark finish by applying several layers of oil.
